CLUB NEWS

How many types of Line Dancing are there?

When we started Linedance Krazy 13 years ago we never knew how much it would evolve.  We have seen the Country and Western era where we all danced to Country and Western music; the dances were all relatively easy in comparison to what we dance today at an intermediate level.  Then there was the Modern Line where the dances were choreographed to pop music, even Latin and Irish music and many other genres too. This brought new styling to the dance floor as Ballroom and Latin moves were used in the choreography   In fact this is how the World Champion Line Dancers were judged. The Judges used the Ballroom and Latin Technique to identify our World Champions.

Along with the pop music came more creative choreography, dances were written to specific tracks involving phrased routines that fit the music like a glove with their tags and bridges.

Recently we have seen the birth of the New Line where dances have been choreographed to Funk, pop and even rap music.  This has brought a new generation of young dancers into the Line Dance Community.  It also brought in moves from hip hop, street dance, and the routines are more energetic and funky.

Salsa Solo

Having taught line dance for a number of years I soon realised that a lot of our dancers would love to learn Salsa so I choreographed a dance called “Opening Doors”  This was the first ever completely  authentic Salsa  line dance many of our members  had ever danced.  After comments about this dance form our dancers it made me realise that there were a number of people who would love to dance Salsa and had joined our line dance club as they enjoyed the freedom of dancing solo.  After many months of research I created dance routines that I called Salsa Solo.

Advertising a Salsa Class under the banner of Linedance Krazy did not seem right.  It was like advertising televisions for sale in a boutique!  So I decided it had to have its own identity and called it Salsa Solo.  Along with the name came a new website, The Latin Experience.  This meant that not only could we create Salsa routines under this banner we could teach Cha Cha Cha, Merengue, Bacahata to name a few.  This took hours of research finding the right music and steps to create routines.  We even taught La Rueada and Salsa Partner dancing.

Zumba

Having taught many Latin style Solo dances I came across a new form of  Fitness and Dance called Zumba.  I fell in love with Zumba immediately as there was a fun element to this keep fit craze and it used all the Latin dances that I loved.  Not only did the routines include Salsa, Merengue, Samba, Bachata but they also use Reggaeton, Cumbia, Flamenco, Belly dance and others too.  I felt like Forest Gump when he said “Life was like a box of Chocolates”.

This led me to create yet another web site for Zumba.  With work commitments at the Crawley Computer Centre it was difficult to maintain so many sites.  What we really needed was one site with all the different styles of dance under one umberella.  Line dance Krazy did not fit well with Salsa dancers and the Latin experience did not best describe Line dancing.  So we came up with a name that says it all.  “Live 2 Dance”.  In other words we don’t mind what music we dance to or what style of dance we do as we just Live 2 Dance.

Live 2 Dance

Our club news letter for all our dance activities will be on our new website at Live 2 Dance.  We have not only created a new web site it is a membership site, where our dancers can post their favourite pictures or video clips and review their favourite dances.  Now this site is very much in its infancy so we need you to be patient as it is going to take a while to build this site so not all pages are complete with content and not all links are working yet.  However there is a lot to see on the site so far.

  • You can watch Line dance videos or submit dance videos.
  • You can submit music files for people to listen to.

  • You can find dance step sheets or submit your favourite for review.

  • You can vote for the next “Golden Oldie” Line dance to be taught by writing a review.  If you can not find your favourite then add it to the site.

  • Select a dance you would like taught then write a review to tell us why you want to learn it. Submit the video clip so we can all see what it is like.
  • Add your picture to our Rogues Gallery and tell us about yourself, which dances you do, your favourite dance etc.

  • Send in your articles or just voice your opinion on our article page.

  • View clips of Zumba, liquid dancers, children dancing, funny routines and more.

  • Add your favourite funny dance video to our dance clip section.

  • Check the calendar for class times and schedule.

  • Watch and Learn Dance instruction videos (for Members only)

There is no limit to what we can do with this site, so go and submit your photo/vidoe or write in our guest book about what you think of the site so far. Help us build a bigger and better dance community, but contributing to the site.  Tell us what you would like to see on the site.

Please be patient while it is still being built.  We are trying hard to get the auto-responder working to let you know when new things have been added for you to look at.  At the moment this is our biggest challenge.  Meanwhile go and see if anyone has uploaded a picture of you yet
